Skills Hubs welcomes the announcement of the Commonwealth Government’s landmark National Skills Agreement.

Taking effect from 1 January next year, the landmark 5-year National Skills Agreement (NSA) will embed national cooperation and strategic investment in Australia’s Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.

$12.6 billion is being invested to expand and transform access to the VET sector, to support quality training and implement reforms to address critical skills needs. The new National Stewardship model will coordinate strategic investment in skills across the economy, supporting delivery of skills in national priority areas as well as meeting local industry skills needs. It will provide a framework for cooperation nationally across State and Territory borders and priorities.

Funding under the NSA will be used to achieve opportunities for all Australians and ensure social and economic inclusion, especially for those historically locked out of the labour market. It will place emphasis on gender equality and women’s economic participation, Closing the Gap for First Nations people, and ensuring more opportunities for young people, mature age Australians, people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disability, and regional and remote learners.

Skills Hubs have proudly partnered with Consortium members Council on the Ageing, Queensland and RTO, Skills Generation, for delivery of The Homecare Workforce Support Program. HCWSP helps sustain essential care services, to date having placed over 1,900 Queenslanders in employment within the aged care industry.

We stand in support of the NSA, contributing to Australia’s high performing and World Class VET sector to achieve a fairer society and stronger economy. We look forward to working further with partners, Skills Gen in training Australians for the jobs of today and tomorrow in critical and emerging industries including NSA priority areas such as care and support services.
